CD drive error with Windows 2000

by jp.reoyo . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

After a Window 2000 crash, I cannot access anymore the CD drive.
In the device hardware manager, the drive has the exclamation point (!) icon.
In the properties of this drive, the following error message appears/
“This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device”

I tried to uninstall the drive and reboot: the drive is recognised by Windows and re-installed, but same problem.

I tried to update the driver; the system finds the file cdrom.inf, and then at the last step of the update pops the error message:
“An error occured during the installation of the device. The system cannot find the file specified”

I tried to repair Windows 2000 (the system seems access the CD drive OK during the boot): same problem.

Before re-installing Windows 2000 I will prefer to have some advice.

PLEASE HELP !
