CD/DVD Drives Not Detected in W2K

By qballrail ·
A client removed Kodak Camera software and their optical drives are no longer listed in either My Computer or Disk Management.

While listed and reportedly functioning properly in the Device Manager, I still advised them to uninstall the devices and reboot so Windows will redetect them. Windows successfully redetected both drives but we are still in the same situation as before.

All of my searches come up with this same procedure for removing from the device manager and rebooting or running the Add Hardware Wizard.

When inserting a disc, the drive spins up, reads data but sends nothing to Windows. This is on BOTH drives.

Note this did not occur until AFTER the software was removed. Obviously they cannot reinstall the software without either drive.

Could BOTH be in conflict?

or use the vendor site to download the latest drives, unpack the drivers to a space on the HDD, when the wizard asks for a driver point it to the floder you unloaded the drivers 2, then plug in the device. If they are usb, unintstall the usb device drivers and when windows reboots it will reintall the usb drivers ad when you plug in your device it should detect and work properly.
