cd dvd player wont work

I have a sony cdrw/dvd CRX830E with my dell insp. 1150. It recently stopped working and dissapeared from My Computer and Run. I went to Device Manager and it still lists the driver as being there but the player will not respond. What happened and where did it go? Thank You.
