CD Progam on Hardrive

By willijam ·
I tried transfering the contents of a program on CD to a directory on the Hardrive so that I could run it without the CD. It didn't work. I ran the installation file from the CD program on the Hardrive; hoping that it would find it on the harddrive. When started, it still asks for the CD. How can I run the program without the CD?

do you have the subst command (depends of the OS you have).
do subst /? for the complete syntax (ea subst f: c:\contentcdrom)
or search on the internet for a program called fakecd, like the name implies it lets the os think a particular folder is a cd.

note. even so some programs wont accept these tricks.

good luck.

Year or so back, I met a fellow at a computer show that claimed to have accomplished this. Unfortunately, I didn't get the details on how. Thanks for your response.

Hi - I did something similar some time back. Did for same reason (faster and in case CD didn't work) and wanted to see if it would work.

There may be software that looks for environment variables (set up by .BAT or some such) to direct to the CD. If you can find those, you can modify to direct to the HD and directory.

As #1 said, may not be a solution even in that. May spend lots of time finding and correcting.
