CD r/w drive vulnerablility to EMF

No. That is strictly a property of magnetic media (tapes, FDDs, HDDs, and the like).

Of course, optical media, incuding CD R's have their own unique set of problems.

As with any electronic device that uses magnets and coils, a strong enough magnetic field can damage the drive.

When the drive is inside a PC case, it would take a very strong field to effect the drive.

The CD-RW media in particular is more suseptable to magnetic fields than you might think.

Check out the info at www.osta.org for further details.
