CD R/W plays Audio, Not visible in My Computer

By short1 ·
I have a dell dimension 3000 with a Sony cd drive that will play Audio but I can not use it to burn cd's. It is not visible in Devise Mgr. I upgraded the firmware and the drive showed up after the reboot but disappeared from view after running aan Audio Cd. I was trying to RIP songs from the Audio CD. Inserting a data CD reveals nothing. The drive letter is and seems to be reserved. Can't get to it from CMD prompt either. Any one experienced this before?

1) Where ever able to rip music in the manner you are attempting?
2) What is the model number of the Sony cd drive you have?
3) What type of software are you attempting to rip with? What burning program?
4) What operating system are you using?

Its hard to beleive the cd drive does not show under the Device manager?

The whole problem started with a person "riping" songs using Windows Media Player 10?
The system is running WinXP Sp2. The cd is Sony
CRX217E HH 48X. They now are not able to use the CD to burn data as it is not showing in MY Computer or in Devise Mgr. I checked the BIOS & it appears as IDE Secondary mstr. CD worked before the "Rip" session I mentioned before.
Thanks for responding.

I upgraded Windows media Player to ver 11 & that seemed to fix the problem.
