CD-Rom/CD-RW Maping

Is there a way to let win98se/win ME know that a networked drive is a CD-Rom/CD-RW.

No, it's just another share drive. You will have to watch for it's description (perphaps someone have wrote down something like "Hi, this is Peter's CdRom")

It would depend if your goal is automatic or manual. I don't have an answer to the automatic, but I'm sure the must be one based on the manual answer. By going into Windows Explorer from another pc:
1) right-click the drive you have shared
2)Click "properties"
Note the "File System". It will say CDFS. This is different than a normal Windows FAT32 hard drive.
