Cd ROM does not work

By Casemaker ·
Hi,
I have a system running W95. The CD does not work. It is recognized on boot but says that it cannot find the cd rom, drivers not loaded. I have swapped it into another system and it does not work there. I then used a known good CD and get the same message.
Things I have done>> swapped with known good one, set to master and slave depended where I tried it. Switched to slave on pri IDE, checked for mscdex it was there. I loaded drivers for the new cd I used.Swapped IDe cable with known goodone. In bios I checked to make sure that it was set to Auto.
In device manager I have yellow exclamation points next to the Pri and Sec ide controllers.
Any thoughts.
Thank You

Apparently the IDE controllers are not setup in the BIOS,Open the CMOS control panel,go to the Intergrated Peripherals page using the CMOS setup utility, make sure both the Onboard IDE controller 1 and Onboard IDE Controller 2 are enabled, save changes and exit, reboot the system and windows should detect the newly activated controllers.Follow prompts to install controller.

Device manager is the answer I think, have you got infra red enabled? have you removed all instances of the cd and scsi from device manager and rebooted without attaching CD

Check if you have plug & Play enabled in BIOS

If a laptop make sure cardworks or other recognises the cd in the PCMCIA slot.

Hope this helps

The cd does not appear in device manager. PnP OS is enabled in Bios.
Thanks

One of two possible causes: Either you have the wrong Hard Drive Controller drivers for your motherboard or you have a virus in your MBR (Master Boot Record). First try locating the Bus Master IDE drivers for your motherboard in your CD or download them from the Internet.

Check with your best Antivirus (I recommend Norton Antivirus) and see if you have a virus at your HDD MBR and remove it.

You can also check if you have a virus by going to the Performace Tab ont he SYstem Properties and if you have a message there saying that the Drive C is in compatibility mode then you might have a virus.
