CD-ROM drive not working

By hhchua ·
The CD-ROM drive is reading and playing audio CDs but can't read data CDs. The error message is as if nothing is in the drive.

If the data cd is not "closed" (ie... if it can still accept more data), then some driver will not recognize those cd's. Close out the writing of more information, then test the cd in that drive.

I had the exact same problem on one of my machines, and the only way I could solve it was to change the jumper on the back of the drive to the CS position.
Note that if you have another device on the same IDE channel you will also need to change its jumper to the the CS position.

I too have seen this problem and the answer to it for me was to check the cables, after reseating them it worked fine.
Hope this is of some help.
