CD-ROM Drive unreadable

by burliuk . Updated 25 years, 2 months ago

Hello, My question is: Are there any common causes that will disable a CD-ROM drive from reading files on a data CD-ROM? The CD-ROM in question can still read and play music CDs. I’ve checked all cable connections and all system settings in device manager and everything appears A-OK. I’ve even tried removing the item from device manager, and it reinstalls automatically after reboot. Anytime I try to access the CD-ROM drive I get the “D:\ is not accessible, the device is not ready” error message. My OS is WIN 98 2nd ed, the CD-ROM is Model LTN-403L. Thanks
