CD-ROM Tower ?

By russell.barker ·
I need help buying a cd-rom tower. I need one that is easy to setup because we lost our NT guy but anyway we need one with 14 bays that would connect right into our ethernet network. Ive been looking on the net and I come across some that say just plug it in and it will work and I was wondering is it really as easy as they say like setting up so that only certian users can use this.
Thanks

CD-ROM Tower ?

by Hasse MCSE/Brainbench In reply to CD-ROM Tower ?

Hi!

Well it is almost as easy as they make it sound.

It's true you just plug it into the network and it works.

The question is what kind of cdroms do you need to be able and use ?

Do any of the software you want to run from the cdrom tower need the CD ?

I mean if you take MS Office you could put it into a servers CD and share it and then just go and install Office, some software this isn't possible because it then says no CD in drive.

If it's such software you need to get a cdrom server or such a tower with client software that emulates the networked cd as a cdrom.

But in short yes they are as easy to use as it sounds. May require client software though.

Hi!

Go to www.procom.com and check out their Dataforce range of products. These are CD/DVD storage servers that attach directly to the ethernet network. The advantage of these is that they make your CD/DVD available at hard-disk speeds!
We haveimplemeted a number of these at our clients, and we use a Dataforce in our own network to share CD/DVD.

I think that Procom makes the best CD based network products. They are very straightforward to setup and there DataForce applciatin is very intuitive for the enduser.
