    CD-ROM won’t play

    Locked

    by itpro ·

    Hi there,

I have dual boot PC with Win98 and WinXP. Two weeks ago, my CD-ROM drive disapperaed from Win98 and couldn,t be installed. Under WinXP it is recognized, and it will read the title of each CD I insert in drive, but won’t play/open it. I am not sure whether it has something to do with dual-boot, or it is unrelated.
    Any suggestions, anyone?

    Thank you

Im sure that the wrong answer..
Im quite sure you may find the cable at the rear of the cdrom is lose or slightly disconnected 😉 if this isnt the issue try one of those laser lens cleaners. this is a major part that is often forgotten in computers today 😉 I dont think it would be dual boot orientated. as they work seperately from each other 😉 I do take it that these operating systems are installed on seperate partitions?

This may be an unrelated issue with dual boot
First make sure that your cables are connected to the cd-rom properly, also check the cable from the cd-rom to your sound card is connected.

Open the Device Manage and check the Controllers to seed iftheir is an exclamation mark,if os reinstall the software drivers for it

Check the list for the cd-rom,you can then try reinstalling the software drivers

check all the cables of your cd-rom ,they must have got loose.check the device manager for any IRQ problem.
try installing the drivers for the specific drive you have. This might work !
might be you have replaced your cmos battery recently and forgt to do some changes in the cmos setup.
if still there is a problem then try reloading the OS .

Hmm . . . all these people heading to power problems yet the man said it will read the cd ? Sounds like the driver is the problem. In DOS, try to dir the cd drive. If it lists the cd contents but you can’t run anything from it – it’s the driver.
