I've had a ton of success with an LG 48x24x48 burner on my system. In Canada these go for about $100.00, and the US will be less of course. When I'm looking for reviews and what-not I usually head to http://www.tomshardware.com/ . I find it is a pretty good site with unbiased reviews.

I'll second the tomshardware site, as well I recommend at least the 48 speed read, I've used the burner drive in my pc quite often as a secondary game cd holder and a 24 speed is not fast enough for a lot of the games ie.. Age of empires loads in about 3 minutes on the cd burner drive, in under 30 seconds on a 12x dvd 32 or 36 cd? Personally I'ld recommend a 16xdvd 40x cd burner 2 in one drive. They are also in the sub $100 range, check out newegg.com for some really good deals.

A while back, there was a discussion posting here, and the general conclusion was that Plextor made the 'best' CD-RW drives.

You can expect to pay an extra 25% for a Plextor over a similar drive from another mfg.

I have had good luck with Phillips and Yamaha drives myself.

I also read an article that stated that the slower (16X) drives are actually superior to the faster (40X) drives in the quality of the recorded CD.
This was especially true for any blank that was not properly balanced.

Asus make really good CD-RW and cost less then Plextor and Yamaha (the other two good drives).
