    CD RW/DVD R won’t record

    I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop that has a CD RW/DVD combo drive that won’t record anymore. The drive itself works fine. I have reinstalled the driver and software but it does not change the symptom. Any ideas?

      what error messages are you getting?
      if everything used to work fine and now you are getting media errors, i bet you have been using 630MB cd’s blanks and now you have 700MB music cd blanks…if you can get your hands on a lower capacity blank, trythat to test this hypothesis…or visit the mfg website and look up your error. I have fixed this problem on other CDR drives with BIOS and burner software updates downloaded from mfg’s website…good luck…

      If the drive just stopped writing but will still read, I’m guessing you’re looking at a hardware failure. In my experience, such failures are not uncommon with the combo drives.

      However, I agree with the post above to try a lower-density disk. If that works, great! Just for grins, you might also see if a disk written in your drive is readable in anyone elses.

      If it doesn’t, the only reliable troubleshooting manuever I know is to swap the drive out with a known good one.
