A client using Win98SE has a recurring problem with a Sony CRX175-A CDRW – 24x 10x 40x burner. The burner tray opens and closes on its own, while the system boots, and even while the system is at rest after starting. This makes the CDRW unusable. I have taken the drive and placed into my own system – no problems – it burnt a cdrom perfectly.
Placed it back into the users system – problem returned. We formatted the system – reinstalled all software and data that had been backed up. The burnerworked for another 3 times, then the problem started again.
Contacted Sony, which is quite willing to replace the unit (it is only 3 mths old) – but I have a feeling this is not really going to help.
Using all current drivers for the motherboard (Soltek – VIA 4in1). I am at my wits end with this one. Any suggestions would be warmly received. Tks in advance.
