    cd-rw will not copy.

    I get a message stating that the ide bus is the same for both DVD and CD-RW.The message also states that the PC cannot read and write using both the same bus.How do correct this.This PC has never copy the day I bought it.I bought it new with Windows Me installed.

      3 options…

      1. slave the cd burner of the other ide cable

      2. Copy to hard drive first

      3. Purchase windows 2000 and get rid of an already obsolete Win ME

      You did not mention the Program you are using, Ahead Nero is very happy copying on the same bus. Although the 8X DVD does slow the copy speed down.

      open your CPU case, then look for a ribbon cable(ide cable) that is connected on the back of the optical drives (cd/ dvd drives). they should have separate cable, one for the DVD and one for CDRW. If not try to buy another ide cable of the same type and that should fix the problem. Go to the cdrw manufacturer’s website and download the firmware update of the drive. Goodluck!

      Simply copy using only the CD writer. The software will create a temp file of the original CD on the Hard Drive and then eject the original and ask for a blank. This process is slightly slower but much more reliable the disk copying from one drive to another.
