CD Server - How to clean the hard drive?

By silverbell ·
I recently took over the technology duties for my organization. The previous staff person had been holding on to old hardware.

My plan is to donate the old hardware to a local charity, but first I've been cleaning the pc hard drives (using WipeDrive).

I recently discovered two cd server towers that I'd like to donate. My questions are:

1. I suspect each tower has a hard drive, am I right?

2. I'm having a hard time opening the cases. They are unlike any pc case I've opened. Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks!
Yesenia

Hi
Yes the towers would have HDDs.

I sympathise with your problem of removing the covers, obviously not the 2 or 4 screws at the back and slide off the panel or cover.
I've found that some cases slide forwards with the front panel and cover being removable as a unit.
Also some cases have a release mechnism tucked up behind the front panel. Hold the case in such a way that you can put your fingers up behind the front panel, from underneath and then pull your fingers forward, this releases the catch. You may need to hold the case up at the front to encourage the works to slide out.

Hope this helps.
