CD Shutdown

By hankogwm ·
For some reason, I am getting messages the I have unplugged my CD-RW and if not right away, soon followed by one about unplugging my CD-ROM. I have not initiated any action like this. My Computer then does not even recognize either device. I have in the past couple of weeks just shutdown and restart, but today they aren't even showing up after a full restart. I have a Pavilion xl754, 2kP w/ Off 2kP.
What on earth is going on? How do I keep this from happening?

Make sure that the ribbon cable is fully plugged in at the motherboard and the CD drive

Do you have both devices connected to the motherboard using the same ribbon cable? If you do, it's either a faulty ribbon cable or a bad IDE port on the motherboard. Try using a different cable from a "good" system to rule out the cable, otherwise, you'll need to contact HP support and get the motherboard replaced.

Cheers,
Shawn
