I was given an old working puter trying to get it going for kids homework to get them off mine.
Is a Compaq presario 2200 running win95.
Am going thru each component to learn, test & understand. Will try and upgrade a bit, If can get more parts.
Present prob-Cdrom wpi cdd- 820 eri, Atapi IDE V1.228A.
It can read from the restore disk that came with puter, (I formatted and reinstalled to get rid of others files). I tried music CD no go, other CDS that came with puter, no go, even tried CDr disk, no go. It just says CD drive not ready , retry? I retry keeps saying same thing. Over and Over. Drive shows as working in Device manager and no conflicts. Any way it seems to work with restore cd.
I suspect puter may have been for work purposes or old work one, could it be locked to stop ppl loading stuff?
By the way there was no Ram in slots, had to put some in but now only got 30MB. Also needing software for assessing componants and testing but has to be tiny to fit on floppy, got WinAudit but want more info.
