I have created a Ghost image of a Dell Latitude 650 MHz laptop w/ NT 4.0 and software installed. I recently used this image restored on a 750 M Dell (chipsets, audio, video h/w, etc are identical to 650) The only difference I discovered, is Dell substituted the cdrom module w/ another manufacturer. Samsung for a Toshiba. This caused a problem in that I could not change the cdrom drive letter in Disk Admin.
I discovered 2 cdrom devices listed in the registry HKLM\hardware\devicemap\scsi\scsiport1\scsibus0\targetid0 & targetid1. Deleting or renaming the incorrect registry key does not work since the key is recreated upon restart. (Apparently merged from other registry keys) Since the hardware subkey is volitale, the hardware registry entries are in the reg from the Ghost image, and hopefully they can be deleted.
Basically the only difference betw. the 2 laptops is the cdrom. The cdrom is modular, so I’m sure someone has run into this problem before, since they are so easy to remove / replace.
I asking for some help in how to remove the old / incorrect cdrom entry in the registry or wherever, after I restore the image?
