    Centralised software library check-out

    Locked

    by trintella ·

I’m looking for ideas about how we can create a centralized software library for Windows off-the-shelf applications.

Need to be able to check-out the app for a defined period of time, install on requesting machine and then delete app from client machine when time limit expires.

Need to be able to track number of copies available and loaned out.

Need to update available copies number when loaned copy ‘returned’ (deleted from client machine)

Need to be able to extend time for borrower.

Need to be able to confirm if client wants to ‘purchase’ and install permanently

Need to be able to regularly check if client has used software. If no use then check with client if still needed. If not delete. If so, extend.

    Ideas?

Sounds like a Citrix server might be the best option for you. However, this isn’t extremely easy nor is it cheap. You should be able to do this and create a dashboard for a user that will allow them to use any applications you load for them, when you are done, you simply remove their right to the application. Presto.
