how good are those cisco certification even in this slow-economy?

Great Differentiator

They're even better. If jobs are tight where you live and you have to go up against someone, if you have certs and someone else doesn't, you'll get the job. The more you have that everyone else doesn't, the better. In reality it doesn't matter ifit helps you learn. HR and managers like to check boxes and certs do that.

Another thing is to keep in mind is how IT
companies value vendor certifications. If
a company like Cisco is having financial
problems,it doesn't necessarily mean their
certification is worthless. It just means
that they are going through toughtimes,and
all IT companies feel the effects of tough
economic times. I think Juniper is a company
that might be worth checking out.
