Change floppy drive letter b: to a:

By plrod1906 ·
I am using an IBM thinpad running Win 2000. I need to change the floppy drive letter B: to A: in order to install a disk partition utility. For the life of me, I can't change the floppy drive letter from B: to A:. Is there a way I can change the drive letter. Any ideas, and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The best answer I can think of here is to go into your BIOS and activate the 'Swap Floppy' setting, this is a hangover from the old mixeed 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 days but most systems still have it.

Hope this works for you.

The next best is to open the case and see if the floppy cable has connections for two drives, if so place the drive on the connection nearest the middle, then enter your BIOS and remove the 'A' drive and set up the 'B' drive. 'A' is always the one at the end of the cable whilst 'B' is the middle one.

Hi
usually the flopy is a:. You can check your BIOS setting and change it there. and make sure it is in the first connection of the cable if there is a tape drive or other device.

you could use the "sub" command if you boot with a DOS boot disk to asign it temperraly to install your software too.
Good luck
