Change Folder Name

By Digital_DNA ·
I'd like the change a folder name located at C:\Documents and Settings\ebcdic... When I try to rename the folder I get the following error; "ebcdic is a Windows System folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It can't be moved or renamed". Anyone know of a way for me to change this folder name -- perhaps by editing the registry?

Thanks,

ebcdic

You can use regedit and search for the folder name or try tweakui powertools. It allows you to change most folder settings of windows without registry hacking

You can't change that folder, because it belongs to user named "ebcdic". When a new user account is created, a folder in Documents and Settings appears with his name, containing his profile settings and my documents files. For security puproses you can't view or rename others folders, you can't rename yours either. You can erase certain user account, take ownership over his files and then rename any folder in his profile.

I'm guessing either:
1/ you are logged on as user ebcdic, hence you won't be able to change the name of that folder because it is being used.
or
2/ You do not have Admin level access to thew machine so you can't change the names of certain folders.

Forget the registry, just think logically. Log in as the administrator and you can do all you want!

Thanks Benyo.. However, I am logged in as Admin under a different user name. The folder is the original folder name from when I installed Windows. I have created new accounts with admin privlages and removed the old account. When I created the new account and took over that folder it never changed the name of the folder to the new account name. The new account just points to that old folder. This leads me to believe I can't change that folder name...
