change ftom static ip's to dynamic ip's

By newcomp ·
I am running Windows 2000 Server and 15 clients on one network. I have a router w/ ISDN connection to the internet. All of the clients and the router and the server have a static ip address. Our ISP is not going to cover the area I'm in anymore and to purchase a block of 20 ip addresses from another service provider is to expensive in our area. How do I go about changing my server over to assign dynamic IP addresses to my client computers, and have the client computers and server still access the internet through the router. My new ISP will assign us 5 static addresses, so I can use 1 for the routher and 1 for the server.
Thanks in advance

If this were NT 4.0 I would say the answer is subnetting and using DHCP for your intranet. However as to how to go about this on Win 2000, I don't know if Win 2000 uses the same setup or not. If it does you're set with the 5 Static IP's your ISP will give you. With subnetting you can have one static IP address and break it up into enough subnets and host ID to supply all you would ever need in a small network. If you would like more info you can email me. Subnetting is too complicated for this forum. Hope this helps.

Unless you need RAS or you have a web server, all you need is 1 IP address from yr ISP. Just configure your router for DHCP and set your workstations to same.
