I am runing a NT 4.0 server on a PII machine and I want to move it to a PIII machine. obviously, I can't just unplug the hard disc and plus it into the new system. I have tried server ways to do that but none of them worked. Is there anyone had experience for this situation?
Thanks, Jing

I have tried this way. I have two questions. Which folder(s) I shold deselect when I backup, I want to make sure I did the right thing? I have Proxy server and exchange server work with NT server on the same machine. Should I reinstall all of these before I restore?
hmm, I would rather take the opportunity to start seperating the services from each other. Having (a domain) server seperate from proxy/exchange. I have a couple dedicated exchange servers running in p2's. That way if something happens to exchange and you need to work on it, it won't effect the people using the proxy server or domain server. Consider that possibillity too.
for the proxy server you can create a backup of the configuration and restore it on the new server. or create a array so the clients will automatically connect to the new server.
Thanks for answering. However seperating the services means a lot of money for Microsoft. Is there any other way to move the NT server to a new system? I really appreciate your answer. By the way, I can't find your email address.
I sugguest that you build the NT on the PIII machine as BDC, sync with the PII PDC. Then promote the BDC to PDC. Install Exchange on the new box, use the "move mail box" function to move mail box to the new Exchange. I don't have all the details now but you should be able to find them in TechNet. Good luck.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem.
