Change password problem

By joshhansen ·
On a Windows 2000 Pro SP4 workstation that is member of AD domain, Active Directory user (who is logged into AD domain) tries to change password. Gets this response:
The attempt to change the password failed. The error code was 0x547 (1351).
This workstation also has Netware client for windows 4.83 installed. Doesn't matter if logged into NDS or not. Still gets error. Not feesable to uninstall Netware client. Active directory is running in 2000 native mode on windows svr 2003 DCs. Any ideas?

A few things to look at. 1st, the domain is available right? If not make sure it is. Next, there may be a policy requiring a few things like alphanumeric, caps, etc. Try a name that uses both upper and lower cases, and numbers.
Next, make sure that it is not a password recently used. Many networks are set to use X amount of passwords before a similar password can be used again.

Thanks but I had already checked these things. What is odd is that it doesn't happen to everyone. I am very interested in knowing what the error code means. I am hoping that will point me in the direction I need to go.

If replication has not occurred, this causes error 0x547 (?Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied?)...

Ensure in the profile of that user on the domain controller is not set to "USER CANNOT CHANGE PASSWORD"

Turned out to be a DNS problem on the client. Wins was resolving the netbios info to allow logon, but DNS was needed to do the change password stuff and that wasn't configured correctly on the client.

k plz chek nd try @ yr DC that if the Domain Membership of that Machine is available or not or add the account of that machine again and then try to change password again if it would let u change the password. nd try to disable the NDS and then check if it would change the password.
