Changed from Domain to Workgroup and lost user folder

Windows 7 pro / SBS 2003 server

I’m wondering if anyone has seen / solved this issue:

I took a laptop that had been on a Domain back to the shop to copy files. Then changed the laptop to login to workgroup rather than domain. I then noted that the user folder ‘username.domain’ was missing – and all of the files that were in it! I’ve done nothing else since. I’m looking for the ‘right’ way to get the files (documents) back.

Anyone??
