Changing CD drive letter

by nhiep_nguyen . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

For various reasons I am used to change the CD/DVD drive letter to put them at the end of the list say Y or Z.
It works fine with XP.
Now I have a Vista OS (SP1)laptop and when I did so I have a problem.
Now my laptop display in Window Explorer a DVD with the letter Y but it also display a CD drive with the original letter E.
When I click on E it asks for a CD in the drive which it cannot see of course.
The worse is to come: when I try to burn a CD in the Y drive Nero warns that burning in a remote drive could not work.
I then try to reverse the DVD drive to E but E is no longer offered as an alternate letter.
I’m stuck because I did not allow restore point to be created.
What could I do? Anyone with an idea to help me debug?
Thanks.
