Changing Default setting?

By theword ·
Hi.
How do I change the default setting in windows internet exploer. I believe its IE5. Anyway it came with win-2000 O.S.
1)The default setting in the explorer-tools-internet options is set to MSN. My question is: Where do I go to change it so it reads something else.(I know how to change my default home web directory....The 3 buttons are use current--use default--use blank.
2)How do I tell what verstion of IE I have. Can I type it in the command prompt to get a listing?
Thats it...........Thanks........Pat

Click on Help and choose About Internet Explorer to find the Version number.
You can enter another address in the Address box in Tool>Internet Options to choose something other than MSN, then click the Apply button.
Or surf to the site you like and then click the Use Current button.

Changing Default setting?

Ok, you want to change the URL that is used when you click the Use Default button, right? Easy.
Open Regedit
Go to:
HKey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Double-click on Default_Page_URL
Type in whatever URL you want to use as the Use Default URL.
Click OK and close Regedit.
Open up IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options and click the button.

Voila!

Also, to get your IE version, just click Help -> About Internet Explorer. The window that comes up will tell you, near the top, the Version.

Hope this helps.
