Changing hardware on NT4 Server

We have a new customer with a single NT4 Server (SP6a) running Exchange 5.5. Is there a way of moving the server to completely different hardware easily? Is rebuilding it the best option?
I realise this may be a strange question but they have some applications running on it of which we have no experience and the configuration looks rather odd.
