Changing IRQ address for SMC 10/100 NIC

By neoblade ·
I have a TNT2 video card installed on WinNT4.0(sp6) and I am installing a SMC 10/100 NIC. Both card are wanting to reside on IRQ 10. IRQ 9 is open but neither card will switch to it.Trying to figure out how to change NIC's IRQ. Can anyone help?

Changing IRQ address for SMC 10/100 NIC

Easy way...if your BIOS supports assigning IRQs to PCI slots you can force a particular PCI slot to take an IRQ of your choosing. If not, reserve an IRQ in the BIOS and see if NT takes that one for the video.

Ok, I would try this...

Right Click on Network Neighborhood and choose properties.
Then choose the adapters tab, and click on the properties for your NIC card, in there you can change the IRQ for the NIC.

One thought might be this, Is the NIC new? Have you reapplied the SP6a after installing the NIC card? This might clear up an error too.

Did you install the NIC during the Install of NT? Again, you might have to reapply the SP6a.

Hope this helps.

The interrupt on SMC Cards are set in the BIOS. If you have an older PCI computer, look for the SETFE32.EXE program on the driver disk to change the settings.
