Sorry MAC addresses normally can't be changed. Some routers will let you mask their MAC address and use one from a NIC or other device, but addresses are hard coded and unique for each device.

Warning -- unless you have a really good reason to do this, this is a VERY bad idea. If you duplicate a key already on your network, both stations will get errors in network traffic. Since most people and most software assumes that the keys are unique, there are no real checks done for duplicates, so duplicate keys cause very difficult-to-diagnose problems.

If your network has software that allocates resources and tracks by MAC address, your changed machine may not be able to access resources.

Depending on the model, software on the 3com site might do it for you. www.3com.com, and select software appropriate to your card model.

There is also a registry hack which will do it. The key may vary by brand of adaptor and which adaptor number you are changing.

Warning -- editing the registry can kill your system. Back up your system, and the registry before you do this.

The key is similar to:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Net\0001
Add a value called Network Address
Put the MAC address into the key.

Good luck.

While it is possible ta assign the MAC address, it takes an EEPROM and oem code to change the MAC address, (same process as many a BIOS FLASH update).

Depending on the NIC, 3com makes it easy, (ControlPanel Applet), or leaves it as in days of old when one had the DOS floppy disk #2 to install and configure each NIC with the programs found in the \utility directory ...

The configuration of the MAC address will have implications to the way NetBT operates, (Windows peer-to-peer Networking and Client for Microsoft Networks), and with tcp-ip if a DHCP server is used and assigns ip addresses according to MAC rather than MachineName ...

If you have a specific requirement to meet, then assignment may be worth it, otherwise one can read the MAC in use now, as reported by the dos command --" nbtstat -a MachineName "-- with the MachineName replaced with the actual one you want to test AND it works with ip addresses too!!!

Good hunting.
