Changing of admin password

By 942796 ·
We need to change the admin password for all the NT servers including our PDC and BDCS
What would be the best procedure for this and in shortest possible time? Thanks in advance.

Changing of admin password

by Joseph Moore In reply to Changing of admin passwor ...

I do this every month at my job, so here are the steps I go through:
1. Find everyone in your organization who knows/uses the Admin account. Tell them you are changing the password and you will inform them when the change has taken place and what the new password is.
2. Know your servers and network for any services/programs that are configured to use the Admin account. You'll have to stop them before changing the account, reconfigure them to use the new Admin password, then start them back up. You don't want an important service running under the Admin authentication to fail. Not good.
3. Open User Manager for Domains on your PDC (my preference is to do this physically from the PDC, but it can be on any BDC; your preference), double-click on Administrator, change the password in the Password and Confirm Password box, then click OK.
Open Server Manager, highlight your PDC, click File -> Synchronize Your Domain. Click on any OK boxes that come up.

That is it. The actual password-changing time is just a few seconds; the planning for it will take longer.

Hope this helps.

The previous answer is very good - but remember to DOCUMENT all those processes that need ADMIN password to run and note how to change them - this docuemtn will save you heaps of time if you ever have to do it again and will server as a good docuement of what was done.

The first answer would be great if all servers were DCs. Instead do it in script.

Try this one I made it myself.
