Changing the default Personal folder Loc

By keith.holewinski@motogrou ·
How do I change the default location of a users Personal folder when they do a Save As. This is the folder to the left That says Personal, and not the the location it automatically opens to. Im sure its a registry change, but I'm not sure Where to make the change.

I am unsure as to a registry hack, but this is one solution you can take. If you are talking just a few users then this solution is an easy one, however if it is a lot of users then you might want to find a new solution, but the one that we used was this:

In the program, select TOOLS -> OPTIONS -> FILE LOCATIONS (TAB) It is in here that you can change the file location for the program. Now if it is a machine that has many dif. users accessing the same program and you want to make the saveas for example to be unique to each one, I believe you will need to find an Office 2000 adm policy template, or make your own...Hope this helped, BTW if you do come across a policy tempate for Office 2000 then I would be interested in getting a copyof it.

under the tools menu, there will be options where a window will pop up and you can choose 'file locations' and that'll say where the default save is and stuff, but it's different in each office program.

This has to do with the ICON on the left side and not the location under tools/options. This folder defaults to users profile on NT.

What I did was to rename the PST, and open up outlook to make sure I did the correct one, you know you did, because it says "can't find the file" so I moved it onto the server, and told outlook where to get it. Granted, that has to be done for all users on all machines, BUT, the servers backed up, the workstations aren't, and it sucks when someone loses a 150MB PST...
