Changing users access from local admin to local user breaks profile. Why?

Hi,

We are trying to lock down our PC’s by removing local admin rights from our users and giving them local user access. The problem is when we change their access on the PC (running XP), then reboot they lose their background, and are unable to use MS Office (word, excel, etc). Also, IE has them go through the initial setup again (asking to set their homepage, etc) but doesn’t allow them to do that either.

Anyone ever see this or know why this is happening? Based on the fact the they lose their profile settings, I’m assuming it has to do with their profile, but why? We’re just changing local access from Admin to User.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Joe
