Changing Virtual Mem crashes PC

By Doigy ·
Hi Folks,

I'm running Win2K SP3, with 384.5 MB of RAM.

For some reason, my Virtual Mem is set at 84-168 MB.

The recommended is 562 MB.

If I change the virtual mem to any other value, my PC will crash and restart.

What do I need to do?

(My hard drive is defragmented)

Regards,

Steve

The possibility that you may be running out of hard disk space can cause system crashes, you will need to maintain at 100mb of free disk space to avoid system crashes

Running to many application or programs at the same time will have the same effect

if you have more than one hard drive in the system use space on the other drive for virtual memory.

The last option is to buy more memory for the system

If you wish to set virtual memory to 562MB, you need at least 670MB of free hard drive space.

I personally now use the larger of 2X installed RAM or 1GB - installed RAM for virtual memory.

For your system, you would need 614MB of hard drive space for virtual memory, and preferably, another 500MB or more of additional free space.
