FOR SOME REASON THE LAST 3 OCTETS OF THE MAC ADRESS DEFAULT TO ZERO, NOW AND AGAIAN.
UNIT HAS BEEN CHANGED 3 TIMES AND A MAINS ANALYZER SHOWS NO PROBLEMS, CONNECTED TO A HUB WHICH HAS BEEN CHANGED VIA RJ45-10BASE-T.
CABLE ALSO CHANGED. SECURE ROOT PASSWORD. IMPOSSIBLE TO ISOLATE DEVICES CONNECTED AS VERY INTERMITTENT.ANY IDEAS, THANKS IN ANTICIPATION

CHASE IOLAN: MAC ADRESS CORRUPTION

interesting info, but it shows that it keeps its data by means of an NVRAM and EEPROM. It may be that the NVRAM (non-volatile RAM chip) battery is losing its information.

A similar problem occurs occasionally on Sun boxes-- leaving the machine unbootable.

Thanks but, Three different units have exhibited same problem. It is only the last three octets of the MAC/ADR that defaualt to 00:00:00, all other paramaters ie IP/ADR, BOOT HOST, PORTS CONFIGURATION etc remain unaffected, but again thanks anyway.
