Cheap VPN Solution

By switchoff_b ·
I'm looking for a cheap VPN solution. We want to connect our main office (NT4SP6) to our remote office (W2K). I've gone over everything I could find on IPSec and PPTP I was just looking for anyone who has done this and could offer some pointers and things to look out for. Thanks!

This is what we use, and it works great:
(even though it was developed in the UK, we use this product in the US)

Look at the Netgear FVS318, this is a integrated NAT firewall, 8port hub and VPN connection for about 150.00. This will require at least 1 static IP address for one of the sites, if you can get static IP for both sites then you can initiate the VPN connection from either end. This model supports NETBIOS over the VPN so you should be able to 'browse' the networks. Note that the local IP address should not be the same IE site 1 network then the other site must not be this same IP network make it and you won't have any problems. If your Internet is < 512Kbs then probably not want to encryp above AES128.

You can configure the remote of w2k with RRAS and can you the microsoft rras client, you can download this from microsoft site. w2k desktops have it (VPN option in Make New Connection)buit-in. for windows 98/NT 4.0 you will have to download.
