CheapAntivrus Site

By mstors ·
Does anyone have any knowledge of this site. The software is much cheaper than most other places. Is there a caveat here?

It sounds untrustworthy, right off the mark.

To me, anyway.

If you are looking for a free AV, there are many. Avira, Avast, AVG; just for starters.

edit: A cursory glance over the site doesn't look particularly bad, but the business has been extant only since late 2009, and the site has almost no reputation (neither good nor bad).

With your insertion of low-word-count words.

A wealth of recursion.

My brainbox is tickled by your phrase there.

A wealth of recursion ???????

by mstors In reply to A wealth of recursion.

Are you talking about "is there a caveat here"?
What is recursive about "is there a 'warning' here" re the name of the site? Please explain.

I was responding to santee's post.

His statement, taken sheerly by the way it is constructed, is recursive.

I should have noticed that the reply wasn't for me but thanks for the explanation.

No problem.

It gets even more confusing in threads with hundreds of posts.

I'm not looking for a free AV

Used TrendMicro Internet security for several years - excellent product. Their price $49.95, $44.95/auto renew can't compete w/$14.99. After more research, CAV seems legitimate. A concern: will it download any spyware.

If it is legitimate, no.

If you have an AV currently running, you shouldn't have a problem. If you don't currently have an AV running, you already may have a problem.

I can't tell you what the risk of doing business with the site or downloading from it might be. As I noted, it doesn't have a bad reputation, but it hasn't built a good one yet either.

If you want Trend Micro (your stated choice), you can always contact Trend and see if this site is a valid or approved reseller. Or get them to offer you the same deal.

As an aside, do you feel that any particular product you might buy is better than a free product simply because you pay for it? I'd much rather use Avira or AVG than Trend, but use what you are comfortable with.

Several years ago there was a Trojan.

by mstors In reply to If it is legitimate, no.

It seemed to hit a lot of friends but I came through unscathed. Nobody I knew personally had Trend so I attributed my good luck to them.

Thanks for the advice about Avira and AVG. No, I don't think something is better because I pay for it so I'll try one of them.

Trend hasn't expired yet so I'm covered.
