Check Size of e-mail before sending

By lumberjack ·
Does anyone know how to produce a pop-up or the like that can check the size of an outgoing e-mail in MS Outlook, and warn if it is over 10Mb

Failing that - does anyone know where I could purchase such an add-in?

No, but a quick workaround is to save as draft before sending, then check your Drafts folder. If Size is not one of your column headings, right-click the column bar, select Field Chooser, and add it.

Are you looking for warning with the ability to stop the send or just a "heads up" that the attachment was in excess of 10M?

The latter can be done with a rule (Tools->Rules Wizard). Tell it to check e-mail after it has sent with the criteria ofgreater than 10000KB and do something (notify you, pop up a message, play a sound, etc.).

Hi Paul, many thanks - however I need this to be a "Are you Sure you want to send?" type of action. Therefore the pop up to occur after send button is pressed but before send is actioned, or as file is attached.
sorry - doesnt solve my problem

Are you also using Exchange? The server can have a default limit, or you can set this for each user to whatever level you like... This is under "delivery restrictions". [To find this, it really depends on what version you're using, and how the AD- if you're using it - is set up]

We are using exchange 5.5 - however this is only to be a warning, there will be many times when sending out attachments > 10Mb are permittable
