I have a general AA right now, and I’m trying to determine which degree path I should take from here. Based on the university I’m attending (UCF), I’ve narrowed down to three degrees: CS, MIS, and Information Technology.
Ultimately, I’d like to work in telecommunications when I graduate, specifically in networking and security. Much of my experience is in telecom and IT support, so I want to choose a degree that complements it. The problem I’m running in to is, I’ve been told that CS is mainly for programmers and MIS doesn’t get very technical. Also, the IT program is not yet accredited at UCF, as it is a new degree track.
So therein lies my dilemma. I don’t mind the extra work of CS, but I want to make sure that the time necessary to complete it will pay off if I choose to be a network admin or something similar instead of a programmer. Any ideas or suggestions for each of the tracks?
