Tape Backup Blues

by john.a In reply to Tape Backup Blues

Skip the USB scenerio - you still have to manually work with it, track it, and get it offsite. Go with an online backup provider . We have been using one for 4 years now. Only 2 problems in 4 years - both times our server. We use the provider for our 2.3GB of "mission critical" data. It cost us $49/month. After 4 years, and 12 copies kept online, our data size is a mere 900MB. We still use USB, but only once a month. We backup the complete hard drive monthly, to USB. When we figured the labor for manaul daily backups, the labor to track the data, and the labor to take the data offsite, well $49/month looked nice. We use because they backup changed blocks not changed files and they are in the Northwest away from disasters. As I said there are plenty of providers out there - check it out.
