I have MCSE+I and CCNA certifications and now intend to pursue CISCO certifications up to CCIE level. Will anyone please advise what hardware resources (ie CISCO routers) to get for a home-based lab. Has anyone ever attempted the exams solely from self study? If so what resources and preparation methods did he/she use? I have very minimal hands on experience on CISCO routers. Will someone also suggest where to get these routers or other hardware at low price.

www.ubid.com has some cisco equipment that is auctioned.

Most of the test labs I've seen advertised involve two 2500 series routers and a couple of catalyst switches. These seem to run about $2500 or so (+/- $200 or so).

Hope that helps,

Every lab from CCNA to CCNP can be accomplished with 5 routers and 2 1900 series switches. I purchased my lab

2 2501,
1 4000
1 1600
1 2505
1 1924
1 1**2

from ebay.com and paid about 1900 for it. I just kept watching until the price wasright and bought then. You can get started with 2 2500 series.

Good Luck.
