cisco 1603 router setup guide

by masternige . Updated 18 years, 5 months ago

Hi folks this is my first post here so i would just like to say hello to everyone first.

I am due to start a course with the Open University for my (CCNA)in November and i have just got myself 2 “cisco 1603 routers” i also have a 5 port hub and 3 computers, and a motorola sb4200 cable modem. The problem is i am completely new to this and i dont know how to set up the cisco routers.I have done lots of reading but most of the howto’s” i have found on the net are for some one who allready has there network setup.I have been told that i should set the routers up back to back with a serial cable which i have yet to get.My biggest proble is which cable goes where.

1:I have read that the console port on the back of the router should have a cable going in to the back of my pc is this right?

2:Where should the ethernet cable from my cable modem plug in to?
I thought it went in to the isdn port on the back of the router.

3:Where does the ethernet connection from the back of the router go to?
I thought it would go in to my hub.

Im completely lost any advice would be appreciated.
Big thankyou in advance for anyone who can shed some light on this for me or at least takes the time to read it,so i can get started.
Thanks Nige.
