I recently purchased a cisco 2500 series router. I connected to the router as per instruction in my ccna study guide book (roll over cable into console port and to db9 adaptor into com1 on pc or laptop). When I do this all I get is a blinking cursor and I cannot type any input. I thought it may be a loose connection so I unplugged an replugged all connections while hyperterminal was still running and random characters were displayed when I plug the rj45 back into the console port. I thought maybe the db9 pinout is wrong but if it is correct what else could be causing this. I have also tried other solutions to other problems I found while searching techrep, such as changing baud rate to accecpt keyboard input from laptop, with no luck.
