This is a continuation with a different spin of a problem called “Split Location to Single Gone nuts” My client had a split-office condition resulting from two partners joining.
In short, inbound SMTP mail is not getting in over a routed Cisco 675 to an ISP over a DSL line.
The ISPs swear everything is set correctly. With the help of another tech-republic member (Paul Wright), I have checked the MX records and they all seem to be in order. The client has leased an eight pack of static IPaddresses. Perhaps there’s a problem with the 675 configuration…
The Cisco 675 is set up as DHCP server, DHCP Client from upstream, internal IP at the default 10.0.0.1, no filters enabled with a cross over cable direct to one NIC in the server (tried it through a small hub and straight cable – no change). HTTP, FTP, Telnet traffic all crosses at good speed.
The server is SBS 4.5 running NT Server 4.0 SP4, Proxy Server 2.0, and Exchange Server 5.5. Internal mail works flawlessly. Internet access through WSP client works.
The error from timed out messages is “Unable to establish SMTP connection” but I can establish Telnet to Port 25 of the local connection.
Am I missing something in the 675?
Am I missing something in IIS/Proxy?
