Cisco 837 password recovery problem

I've got a working Cisco 837 Router at my work but no one can remember the enable password, which is needed to make some config changes and no one has a copy of this config! I've connected to the router with my laptop, did a ctrl+break with a console cable connected during bootup of the router and got into rommon. I typed set ios-conf=142 and was presented with a 2> prompt. Typed boot, and the router reloaded. However instead of then allowing me to do an enable without pwd and then copy the config across then set the enable password, it just loaded the image/config, ignoring what id set in the registry. Any ideas???

Any chance you were looking at the 801-813 routers? The procedure for the 837 is a little different. You use 'confreg 0x2142' at the rommon> prompt rather than 'set ios-conf'. See if the URL below helps:
