Cisco 851W Router – Wireless Problems

by abluesax . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

I’ve been attempting to configure the Cisco 851W as a wireless AP using WPA-PSK. I’m encountering issues with the router such that once the client successfully connects using WPA-PSK, after about a minute, the wireless interface on the router “locks up” and stops functioning. Attempting to reconnect is not possible as the AP is not longer broadcasting the network. In some instances, the Dot11Radio0 interface actually shuts down (determined by viewing the interface statuses).

I’ve followed all the directions in the SDM for the proper configuration as well as the documentation available on Cisco’s website. When the wireless is configured for open authentication with no security, all the devices are able to connect with no problems and can run for days. Using the working open authentication running-config, WPA-PSK is enabled using the SDM. The client is able to connect with the proper credentials for about a minute before the wireless interface “locks up”.

I’ve also tried the following setup:

With this config, I can access the GuestWLAN with WPA-PSK with no problems, but when I connect to the InternalWLAN, same issue as before. In this case the Guest SSID is broadcast, while the Internal is not. If this is switched such that the Internal is broadcasting the SSID, when connecting to the internalWLAN, the wireless locks up.

The clients I’ve been using are a MacBook Pro with built-in AirPort Extreme as well as an HP Compaq nc8000 with Intel Pro Wireless LN 2100 3B. Since the clients are able to connect with and with-out WPA-PSK, it leads me to believe it is some type of configuration on the router, or possibly a hardware problem.

The following is the IOS information:
Cisco IOS Software, C850 Software (C850-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 12.4(4)T8, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)
System image file is “flash:c850-advsecurityk9-mz.124-4.T8.bin”

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
