By Mart H ·
Does anyone now of an emulator for cisco equipment that would enable me to enter commands, test and verify in order to gain practise for the CCNA exam.

There are quite a few Cisco Router simulators available. I personally used Boson Router Simulator (www.boson.com), Todd Lammle RouterSim (www.routersim.com), KnowledgeNet Flash Simulators (just pre-defined scenarios, but pretty good). I know there are a few more, but I didn't try them.

Now about "usability" of the simulators. For CCNA exam they may be suitable, but pricewise it may be comparable to buying one or two "low-range" used routers on eBay. At least, you will have biger commands set. But from another hand you will be limited with hardware you have, when with simulators you may have less commands, but biger variety in interfaces, topology, and devices.

Good luck,

Thanks for the help

I have downloaded the Boson Netsim demo and it works really well, the labs are really easy to get to grips with. I think I will take up your advise to see if I can pick up a second hand router as well

Thanks
